Niall Johnston has had tangible success delivering technical assistance and development support to legislatures in developed, developing and fragile environments across more than 50 countries and 170 legislatures. He is a specialist in parliamentary oversight, legislative benchmarking and parliamentary independence. With considerable experience in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Niall has conducted numerous legislative needs assessments, design missions and project evaluations. He was Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the newly created Northern Ireland Assembly following the Irish peace talks, conducted the first ever assessment on the state of democracy within the Parliament of Pakistan for the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group and has supported the Constituent Assembly in Nepal. With a firm understanding of the role of parliament in conflict situations, Niall is also very familiar with the issues around supporting parliamentary democracy in the context of the Muslim world. A good communicator with a proven ability to liaise at the highest levels, he has a track record of conceptual thinking and sound judgement. Niall Johnston is a confident, diplomatic and versatile manager and trainer who is pro-active, results driven and able to multi-task effectively under pressure.
